CrystalCraftMC

Official website for the semi-vanilla Minecraft server CrystalCraftMC.

Hey CrystalCrafters,

After eight months of anticipation, it’s finally time to implement something new. And it’s going to happen fast, so grab some caffeine – you’ll need it this week.

After much deliberation and planning, the world is going to be permanently and completely reset on the afternoon of June 11th, 2015.

This decision did not come lightly, and we are committed towards following through with this reset. As this is on short notice, there are a few things that I would like to cover with you so we all get through the next few days.

Transferring of Items, Inventory, and Chests
For the first time in over two years, CrystalCraftMC will undergo a complete and full world reset. This means that no items, chests, bases, or inventories will be moved over from the old world to the new world. If you previously bought a vault, it will still be yours, but it will be empty. Everything will be wiped clean and everyone will start from the same place. There will also not be any options for paid base moves.

This was the biggest and heaviest part of this decision, and it was not taken without a considerable amount of thought. For a Minecraft server, we are very old in terms of our item economy. Many veteran players have moved items or paid for base moves in the past two years, and some members took the arduous task of moving all of their items between world portals. As a result, with every new Minecraft update, there are items that were once given away that should not exist, creations made that give unfair advantages to new players, and it gives some players a two year head start over others. It was these things in mind that led us to believe it was time for a full world reset.

What about 1.9?
Originally, our plan was to wait for 1.9 to release before wiping out our new world. But after new rumors have emerged on when 1.9 might actually release, we decided to make the decision to reset now earlier in...
Hello CrystalCrafters.

The time has come, at long last, to update all the redstone and commands that run the experience shops. As some of you may already know, I built the guts for the shop in 1.5 and other than making minor adjustments upon updates the shop has never really gotten a full tune-up to incorporate all off the wonderful new things Minecraft has added since 1.5. Back in 1.7, the shops had a face-lift, but even that was just upgrading the huts I built back in 1.5.

When 1.8 came out, we actually had to remove items so we could add some of the new toys simply because the area was never made to be expanded. In light of all these facts, it has become obvious that a ground-up rebuild of everything is needed for this.

New and Improved
One thing you may notice when using the new shops is that they are quicker and more accurate. The changes made to the redstone means that the time from button press to transaction completion is about 3x as fast as the previous design, with only 1/20th of a second between receiving your item and paying the XP, and the new layout of the command blocks helps to ensure that the person pressing the button from the counter will always be closest.

An unseen feature is that the new "Shopping Mall" style is specifically made for future expansion. The new shops could hold 4 more stores and 1 or 2 items per store without severe modification. I'm not saying that would happen any time soon but it is a crucial feature that means updates could bring their own shops instead of us rotating stock.

Perhaps the most exciting radical new change will be the addition of Shopkeeper villagers. Why would our tiny little shops need shopkeepers? Well, for a long time now people have requested the ability to sell items in the exp shops. Any of you who have recently visited the Coffee Shop or Bar at spawn may have noticed I've gotten pretty good at custom villager trades. As a result, when the new...
Hey CrystalCrafters!

It has been a few months since a real update about what’s going on with the server, so I think it’s time to give everyone a big comprehensive overview of everything that’s going on! There are five things I would like to cover today.

MINECON
Due to a series of unexpected events, I am fortunate enough to be able to attend MINECON 2015 this year! As part of Mojang’s Agent program, I applied to be a helper / intern for the duration of the convention back in early March. The program offers the opportunity for dedicated members of the Minecraft community to attend MINECON to help set up the convention, direct convention-goers, run tournaments, escort VIPs, and meet the developers! I will be volunteering one of the days that I am at MINECON - the other day will be a free day for me to attend the convention like a normal attendee. I would like to thank the Spigot community and @cindy_k for their incredible support they have given me over the past few months. It wouldn’t be possible without any of them.

Special Campaign
As a result, I am happy to announce a special campaign that we will be running until July. The Server Shop has a special MINECON page where you can choose to be a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Diamond sponsor for CCMC. All of the funds from these packages will go directly towards MINECON expenses and creating cool, unique merchandise for the server. A quick breakdown of each rank will follow below!

Bronze
  • Name featured on the CrystalCraftMC Signature Sheet
  • Early access to Project Midnight Sun
Silver
  • Everything from...
APRIL FOOL’S!

I am actually very happy to say that there are absolutely no plans to close CrystalCraftMC any time soon, and I am looking forward to taking us through another three years, if not more. Even though I will be heading out to college this year, this should not have a drastic impact on my time for managing the server nor will it affect my ability to responsibly manage it. If anything, some of the skills and experience I pick up in my major should play a positive impact back towards the server.

As for the server funds, in case you saw the image I posted earlier, it was doctored. Unlike the nefarious owner of MedievalCraft, I have remained diligent with balancing the server budget, and I have made sure that we have enough to support ourselves long into the future. So, needless to say, the server is certainly stable for a good while, and who knows, perhaps we might see some special guests over this summer!

I am privileged and honored to have such an awesome community on CrystalCraftMC, and there is no way I would trade it for anything. You guys have seriously given me such an incredible experience doing this, and it means more than you all can know. From the kind players, to the sometimes troublesome players, you all have had an impact on me, and I am glad to have you in the community. You all are awesome and let’s make the future even more awesome together!

There’s no way I could ever give up doing this. :) Love you all.

Two and a half years, CrystalCraftMC has been online. Together, we have seen it all, and I have been privileged to get to know several of you in the community over the years and watch as many of us have grown incredibly close, and in some ways, almost like a family. There have been many good memories made, and several people who have impacted my own life considerably through this experience. On this note, I am reluctant to share some news that I have been...
Hey CrystalCrafters!

If it's not too late already, happy new year! As we move into 2015, it makes me happy to see that the server has sustained and prospered for so long, and I look forward to another fantastic year of being your server owner.

I figured it's been a bit quiet on the front so I'd post a brief update of what's going on. One thing that made me happy was just in the past couple of weeks, we hit over 50 players online at once, which hasn't happened in a good amount of time! Activity on the server has been doing really well.

Development Team
For those of you who haven't heard of this already, @Jacc734, @Jwood9198, and myself have formed the first-ever CCMC Development Team. After the three of us found out that we had similar skills and abilities in our Java programming (i.e. the language that Minecraft and our server software are coded in), we decided we would collaborate on a good number of projects to try to add some new interesting twists to the server.

We've been working fervently over the past two months, and some of our bigger projects are beginning to take shape, so we hope to be introducing these on the server in the near future! One of our biggest ideas is a PvP Storm plugin which will make the storms far more interesting and rewarding for all players.

For those of you who are code-inclined, we're on GitHub! Check out our code at github.com/CrystalCraftMC and if you feel so inclined to, feel free to leave a pull request or leave comments or ideas on our code! We also have a few community positions open to help with development, like @Jwood9198 is currently doing. Contact me privately if you are interested in that.

Staff-Player Interaction Policy
Some of you have probably heard one way or another about the change in the staff-player interaction policy that we have. For a variety of...
Ho ho ho!

Happy holidays, CrystalCrafters! No matter what holiday you're celebrating, I hope you're all staying warm and getting some relaxation for the next few days while you're off of work and/or school. I have some good news to share with you!

Tonight, Crystal Clause is coming to town!

That's right — all of the good boys and girls of CCMC can get something from the big man himself! However, if you want him to visit you, you have to do a few things first!

  1. Reply to this thread with a small list of what you want from Crystal Clause! (Remember, he has to visit a lot of people, so keep your list reasonable or else he may just give you coal!)
  2. Leave cookies and milk out in a special chest by a tree in your base!
  3. If you really want to make Crystal Clause happy, make a chimney in your base for him to climb down!
Crystal Clause will be reading this very thread tonight, so make sure you're on your best behavior! Check your base in the morning to see if he visited.

Cheers,
- jflory7
Hello CrystalCrafters!

Yes, it's time for another monthly update! I don't have as many things to cover, but everything I do have to cover is big and important! So read on for important info.

Minecraft 1.8
Finally, it has come. Finally, it has happened. Full Minecraft 1.8 has finally come to CrystalCraftMC, thanks to the fantastic Spigot development team. We are now using the full version of Minecraft 1.8, so all of your 1.8 plans and ideas should now be working! Feel free to play around with slime blocks and armor stands, hunt down some guardians, and make a rabbit petting zoo!

Also, there are a few small bugs with 1.8, but nothing major. The biggest thing that @InfiniteCorners and I have found is that our XP Shops and banking system are going to need to be fixed because of some game-breaking bugs. In the meanwhile, the XP Shops will be closed for renovation, but we hope to open then again soon.

However, there is one major bug that everyone needs to be aware of…

Corrupt Player Data Files from Rules Book
Some of you may have already witnessed other players having this issue. Perhaps some of you were the users who had this problem, like @Marine774 and @symbolater.

But long story short, Minecraft 1.8 has bugged out our Rules books, and it has made them into death traps. Literally, if you try opening one, it will crash your client every time you log in. This is the only PSA we will make about this. Do not open any server rule books or else you may lose your inventory and ender chest!

Consider this your only warning. If you disregard this notice or happen to not read this post, you will need to contact an Admin or myself to fix your file for you. We might be able to recover your ender chest if you are able to log onto TeamSpeak3 to coordinate with us, but your inventory is more than likely guaranteed to be...
Trick or Treat!

It's that time of year again where smart Steves give out goodies to all the little ghouls and goblins in hopes they doesn't get griefed with eggs. In that tradition: 10 Hidden Huts have been placed in the deiced area of spawn (The half with no crystals). Players will have all day to try hunting down and collecting all 10 rewards. Can you get them all?
Hey CrystalCrafters,

It’s that time of the month for a front page post. This month, we actually have a lot to report, so you’re definitely going to want to read all of this one!

Fall Fair
For the past two weeks, the CCMC Staff and the one and only MinecraftBrookie, have been cooperatively working on one of the biggest events we have ever coordinated! Thanks to all of the amazing staff helping run the server on a daily basis, we are planning to have some festive fun to celebrate the bringing in of autumn!

We are planning to host a full on fair / carnival for all of players to visit and participate in! We’re already getting in the spirit for Halloween, as you’ve probably been able to tell if you’ve seen spawn! However, there is so much more being planned as well! We are putting together a fairgrounds for you all to come and visit. Here, we will have all kinds of things for you to do, such as a haunted house, minigame booths, mazes, and more! Plus, most of this events will have some awesome prizes involved as well, so you’re definitely not going to want to miss out!

Store Reopening
Edit
: The store is currently not open yet, but it will visible in the next 48 hours!

After almost two months of the store being offline, I have made the decision to reopen our Shop again. With this, the old ranks have been retired, and we have introduced an entirely new class of ranks for you to purchase and check out. With these comes new commands and abilities that weren’t included in the old ranks, so it’s definitely worth checking out! See more about them here.

As for our current donors, there won’t be much changing except for one thing. In one week’s time, we will be phasing out the /back command in all of its entirety. This decision was made for a multiple number of reasons, and it is definite. Outside of this, all of the old donor ranks will remain exactly the same...
Hello CrystalCrafters,

jflory7 here with another update. There's been a lot of things going on in the world of Minecraft over the past six months, particularly in the past month alone. I'm going to try to cover some of these things as well as other things going on in the server.

Creative Server
As some of you may have realized already, I have decided to retire the creative server permanently last night because of the low activity on the creative server. I believe it is in our best interest for CrystalCraftMC if we focus on what we've always done best — our survival server. It has caused a few problems to have to maintain both the survival and creative server, and this will make it easier for myself and other staff members to maintain the server and ensure that everything is flowing well on a daily basis.

I do realize that many of you invested a lot of time on some of those plots, and I don't want to take away your work from you! Therefore, I have uploaded the entire creative server world to my server so that anyone can download it if they so choose to.

Retiring Staff, New Staff
In the past couple of weeks, we've had a few staff members retire and a few new staff members join the team.

However, before I get into that, I'd like to give an update about InfiniteCorners. Many of you remember that he was originally brought onto the staff team as a temporary admin back in July. This was originally the intention, but because of recent events and low staff, I promoted Infinite to a permanent Admin to help out with the server as a full staff member. As every other staff member, he is here to help and will assist me in running the server.

Next, I'd like to give a proper send-off to @fortification45, @CodeBaka, and @ImKingsor. In the past month or...
